The cyclically adjusted P/E, or Shiller P/E is defined as price divided by the average of ten years of earnings (moving average), adjusted for inflation, and is commonly used as an indicator of affordability within the stock market. The average Shriller P/E is 16.82, whilst its maximum value was reached in December 1999 at a value of 44.19. With today’s value of approximately 33.67 we should ask a very important question.
